LS: Writer, Editor, Designer
As a recent graduate of Michigan State University, I am eager and ready to begin my professional life as a writer, editor, and designer.
Writing has always been an interest of mine, and I think it is one of the greatest and simplest communication tools available. Writing can influence, persuade, call for action, establish connections — and throughout my undergraduate years, my writing has taken on all of those attributes, depending on the situation and assignment. My writing style is always adapting and changing to best suit my audience, in order for it to function as an effective tool in communicating with readers.
Editing, some would say, is merely a component to writing. I, however, disagree: editing is not one dimensional and only applied to the revising of drafts. Rather, editing can help shape an essay, while also checking it for accuracy and precision. My editing skills have sharpened as my experience with it increased, namely with my involvement as an editorial intern at Fourth Genre (a literary nonfiction publication) and doing some freelance copyediting.
And finally, the last step to good communication: design. Making documents readable, accessible, and comprehensive is an essential part of the process. I try to keep my designs simple, clean, and above all else straightforward and easy to use.
Combining all three of these elements is necessary for me to produce good, quality work that you will find in this portfolio.
