Fourth Genre: Editorial Assistant
Fourth Genre: Explorations in Nonfiction is a literary journal devoted to publishing notable, innovative work in nonfiction.
As an editorial assistant, I had many tasks and responsibilities that I was accountable for to ensure that the journal ran smoothly. Some of my responsibilities included:
- giving input at editorial staff meetings and commenting on issues that ranged from ethical dilemmas to communicating with writers to managing deadlines to handling problems with the Press
- creating a searchable database for all past contributors of Fourth Genre
- screening and judging manuscripts based on the given criteria for the Editor’s Prize Contest
- answering email inquiries from authors
- writing standard and special rejection letters
- making sure we were working closely with the Press' production schedule
